wow, that's really interesting. It's sad to see the US dollar decline in its value. =(
Reminds me of the music video we saw in class of Jay-Z showing off euros. Maybe soon enough the US economy will start using the euro too??

Oh if the UK has so vehemently resisted switching to the Euro I think the US on something Euro-like would be unthinkable. Nationa£i$m in currency, gotta love it. But I think this practice serves as a positive for both the traveler and the store owner. From the traveler's side, they don't have to lose money in exchanging for $'s and then have that dreaded AMERICAN currency leftover after their travels. For the store owners, it serves as a bit of a attraction to European visitors because they won't have to exchange and especially during a time when Europeans might be likely to take advantage of their relatively strong currency and visit the US, getting a share of that business is important. Just like those "establishments" in Tijuana that accept the $ as payment, NYC is now taking advantage of a proximity factor too. Too bad we'll never be able to pay in $$ in Europe..and we'd feel oh so poor if we did.
I guess I have to think about this a little more.
It is interesting reading the responses that followed the actual article. There are some very strong opinions on accepting Euros in the U.S.

This is similar to the music video we watched in class and reminds us all that the US dollar is not what it used to be. It also makes me wonder whether more stores will allow this or whether other countries will accept US currency rather than their own.
I can't believe this. It is true that our dollar is declining rapidly but its weird to witness our currency being put on the back burner on the sense. It makes me wonder if our economy continues to go the way its going, will the euro seep into our system without us even realizing it?
The Euro is only so powerful because they have a whole European alliance to back it up. I'm certainly concerned with our market declining but we have the unity of a whole nation and remain the richest single nation in the world and the strongest and most advanced military. Market dynamics rise and fall (especially with the well over 170 billion dollars invested in Iraq). Compared to the genocides and suffering elsewhere, our temporary decline in the markets seems somewhat petty. Empires rise and fall but I don't think our time is quite up yet.
This reminds me of the jay-z video that we watched in class. Its just interesting that even New Yorkers have faith in the Euro enough to accept them in place of american bills.
